Sausage Cream Cheese Dip

Having a party or a potluck and want to be the talk of the day? This is just the thing. This sausage cream cheese dip is served warm and even doubling this recipe never seems to be enough. This uses hot sausage, sour cream, cream cheese, and a host of peppers and vegetables! Make this easy recipe the day before your event then simply put it in a slow cooker and keep on low or warm. Serve with chips or crackers and you’re guaranteed to run out.
I wanted to give full credit to this recipe to my boss. He makes it every time we had a potluck and was always happy to share the recipe. I would just call it Ty’s Sausage Dip. A few days ago I got with him and told him that I was going blog and wanted his permission. He said it was ok, and emailed me a copy of the recipe. In casual conversation with someone else I mentioned how I was making some and was planning to blog it when she showed me a copy of virtually the same recipe from a chain email sent in 2007. So we may never know who originated this recipe but many people give their thanks!
So let’s get started on your having the most craved dish at your party. First, about an hour before you start with the dip allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature.
Prep Work
While the cream cheese is out and warming to room temperature, this is a great time to chop and dice the onion, red bell pepper, jalapenos, and tomato.
Stove-Top Cooking
Now that we’re ready to cook we put a pound of hot sausage into a skillet over medium heat. To this we add the onions
On top of the onions we add the red bell pepper and jalapenos.
Allow to cook while stirring and breaking up the sausage until the sausage is brown. Turn the heat down to low and let cook further until all of the vegetables are tender.
Put the softened cream cheese into a large bowl (hint: if the cream cheese is still hard put in the microwave for no more than 20 seconds at a time until it’s soft but not melted)
Bringing it all together
Pour the sausage/vegetable mixture ontop of the cream cheese and stir to melt the cheese and combine evenly.
Next, add the can of green chilies, the diced tomatoes, and the sour cream.
Mix this all together until thoroughly combined. At this point you could put it into small bowls to microwave and serve, or you could put it in a slow cooker on low/warm. The best results though are when you put this in the refrigerator overnight to let the flavors meld and serve in a slow cooker or small bowls the next day
Delicious Sausage Cream Cheese Dip
This sausage cream cheese dip is guaranteed to be the hit of any event. Serve with crackers or as seen here with scoop tortilla chips

Steve, this dip looks delicious. What I really like about it is the fact you can make it ahead and then serve it warm from the slow cooker – anything easy works for me.
Looks great Steve. Don’t think I’ve ever had a dip like that made from hot sausage. Would like to give it a try.
Steve right now, both my husband and I are on strict diets. Only certain cheeses and no tomatoes. But this recipe would be awesome for when we get back to entertaining. We both love sausage and cream cheese but I’ve printed it out now. Thanks.
This is my go-to dip! Was trying to decide on whether to have a South-Western theme or just serve what I like for the Super Bowl. Screw it, I’m doing both and this dips on the list.
You can call it a dip if you want – sounds like a whole meal to me! This looks absolutely delicious!
Wow! Just in time for Super Bowl…gonna make it for myself!! AND eat the whole damn bowl:)
The sausage and cream dip as well as the other recipes look and sound yummy. However it’s the kind of American food that I only eat once in a while.
And he did it again. It is not yet 10am and now I am hungry! I have a party this weekend so this will be my contribution.
Thanks, Steve.
The sausage cream cheese dip seems yummy. I also make such thing but replace sausage with chick peas.
When I saw the picture on top I thought you are preparing that.
Will surly try this.
Thank you for a mouth watering recipe.
I confess I never would have considered combining cream cheese and sausage but this sounds (and looks) like a real winner. I definitely plan on giving this a try over the weekend!
hi steve; i love reading your recipes because they sound like foods and dishes i grew up with. doubt my gastric surgeon would approve, but maybe i’ll run it past their dietician. at least it does appear to be mostly protein. 🙂 have you considered maybe offering one post a month with a healthier version of one of your favorite dishes? i had to ask. well thanks again for sharing. take care my friend. ps it never hurts to give the boss the credit
You’re totally right, I need to experiment, and find the occasional healthy version of some of my favorites. These comfort food favorites are for the occasional pass on a diet and not intended for everyday eating. That is unless you work on a farm or do some other job that burns off 10,000 calories a day lol
I love that you illustrate each step in the process. This is a dip that I would like to try even though it’s loaded with calories. Why does everything fattening taste so good!?
This will be served as a dip at my super bowl party. Thanks for sharing, and you explained it so I can understand. I have trouble opening the potato chip bag.
Hello,
Oh dear, I read this post at the wrong time as now I am super hungry, fantastic recipe for the dip which I will definately be trying, looks delicious. Thank you for sharing.

Well this is an unusual combination, but looks likeit would be delicious. Thanks for the recipe.
My husband is going to love your recipes! I’ll pass them on.
Oh sure! I read this recipe right AFTER the Superbowl. 🙁 could have made it for the big game. Sure guys would love this!
